Iswaran the Storyteller Class 9 English Moments Summary

Chapter 3: "Iswaran the Storyteller"

Summary: "Iswaran the Storyteller" by R.K. Laxman is a story about a man named Mahendra and his cook, Iswaran, who is also an excellent storyteller. Mahendra works as a junior supervisor at a construction site and frequently moves from one place to another. Iswaran accompanies him everywhere and takes care of all his needs. He not only cooks for Mahendra but also entertains him with his amazing storytelling skills.

Iswaran has a unique way of narrating stories. He often includes vivid descriptions, dramatic gestures, and even sound effects to make his stories more interesting. One of the stories he narrates to Mahendra is about a ghostly woman who haunts the construction site where they are currently staying. Iswaran claims to have seen the ghost himself and describes her in great detail.

Initially, Mahendra dismisses Iswaran’s story as mere imagination. However, one night, Mahendra himself experiences something strange. He hears a moaning sound outside his window and sees a ghostly figure of a woman. Terrified, he immediately decides to leave the place the next morning.

The story highlights the power of storytelling and how it can influence people's minds. Iswaran's stories, although exaggerated, are a way for him to express his creativity and entertain his master.
